Preassembly Tips and Advice
- If you are uncomfortable with bike mechanics, we recommend having your bike assembled by a bike shop or qualified bike mechanic.
- Remove only the packing zip ties, taking care not to cut any wires, cables, or zip ties used to route wires.
- Avoid touching the brake rotors with your fingers. Natural oils from your hands can contaminate the rotors, reduce braking performance, and cause a loud whining sound when braking.
- Apply grease to the seat post before installation.
Assembly Basics
Cable Routing
Before installing your handlebar stem, inspect the wire and cable routing and match the orientation shown in the assembly video. The wires should not cross over, as incorrect routing can damage the electrical components of your bike.
Handlebars & Stem
You will need to install the stem and handlebars before riding.
- Tighten the stem bolt to 5 Nm, then check that the front wheel is properly aligned.
- Once the wheel is aligned, fully tighten the stem bolt to 7 Nm.
- Using the 5 mm hex wrench, alternate tightening the two headset bolts until both are equally tight.
- Confirm there is no play in the fork.
Brake Levers
The brake levers should face forward and be angled slightly toward the ground. This position allows you to comfortably operate the brakes while maintaining a secure grip and good control of the handlebars.
The lever position can be adjusted later to suit your personal preference.
Changing Class Settings
- Press and hold both the (+) and (-) buttons for 2 seconds to enter the settings.
- Use the (-) button to navigate down to "Riding Mode".
- Press the POWER button to enter the Riding Mode setting.
- Use the (+) and (-) buttons to select you desired ride mode.
- Press the POWER button to save you selection.
Post-Assembly Tuning and Safety Check
After assembly, complete the following checks before riding.
Common Assembly Issues
Minor transit damage can happen during shipping. Here are some of the most common issues and how to address them.
- Index your derailleur and verify the hanger is straight
Failure to properly index the derailleur and set the limit screws may cause damage to the rear wheel, motor cable, motor, derailleur, or derailleur hanger. - Ensure your brakes are adjusted and bedded
Brake calipers may need to be adjusted to perform properly. New brake pads also need to go through a bedding-in process and may make some noise while braking until they are fully bedded. - Double-check your cable routing
Make sure the cables are routed as shown in the assembly video. Proper routing helps reduce stress on the wiring and can prevent damage to your ebike's electrical components. - Adjust your fenders
Fender rubbing can occur during shipping or assembly. Adjust the fenders to ensure there is no noise or tire contact during operation. - Portola 02 Display

The battery can be charged either on or off the bike. To partially release the battery, gently turn the key. To fully remove the battery, gently rotate the battery latch to the left or right to release it.
