The strap on the Ride1Up Portola is designed to keep your bike held together in its folded configuration as securely as possible. This strap is as short as possible in order to keep your bike secure and safe in this form and has to be routed in a very specific way to fit properly. While it may seem like the strap on your bike is too short, we can assure you that it will work perfectly as long as you follow these quick tips.

First make sure everything is folded as tightly as possible. Ensure that the kickstand and pedals are folded and position the pedals at a 45 degree angle to the ground so that the non drive side pedal sits in between the frame hinge and the front tire when folded. This should allow the front fork to sit as close to the non drive side chain stay of the frame as possible when folded.

Now that the bike is folded in its most compact form, ensure that the long end of the strap is pointing up before wrapping the strap around the fork stanchion and back up to the button from the underside of the rack. In order to fit properly this strap has to be routed so that it goes under the square tubing that makes up the top of your Connect+ rack but above the smaller round tubing that forms your pannier mount. The strap should sit flat against all parts of the frame and should look like the photos below.

For reference, your strap should be about 9 inches long as measured from the top of the frame tubing to the end as seen below.

We hope that these tips will help you properly keep your bike secure in its folded form. Feel free to reach out to our customer support team if you have any questions about this strap on your Portola. Happy riding!
