If you are experiencing a error 05 code or a non-functional throttle on your Roadster V3 do not worry as this article will go over some initial steps to get your bike back on the road. Often times we see this error code or symptom comes up due to faulty electrical connection between the motor controller and the display unit of the bike.
There is one easy connection to check a few inches down the wiring coming out the back side of your display and this connection can be checked by pulling the connector apart and ensuring that the center pin is free as shown in the below video.
Often times the issue can be resolved by checking this singular connection but there is a very similar electrical connector found near the motor controller inside the frame that can also be checked if the issue persists. Below are instructions for how to access and check this connection inside your frame.
Step 1- Loosen Motor Cable
In order for the controller to be removed, the motor does need to be unplugged. This will allow for enough slack in the cables to remove the controller from the bike. To do this, remove the motor cable cover by loosening the four small hex bolts located by the rear wheel. Once the cover is removed, cut the zip tie holding the cables in place and unplug the electrical connector.
Step 2- Unplug the controller cables
Once the motor cable is loose, the controller can be removed from the frame. This can be done by first loosening the lower battery panel in the frame by removing the two Torx 20 bolts in the frame. Once the bolts are removed the lower battery panel can be slid out of the frame. The yellow battery connection may come unplugged and this is okay. After the panel is out, the controller can be lifted out of the bicycle. Good practice is to take a picture of how the wires are arranged with the controller inside the frame, so that it can be recalled later during reinstallation.
Step 3 - Check the Connection
With the controller removed from the frame, the display wiring connector, circled in red below, can be located and checked in a similar way to the connection at the handlebar.
This process again can be seen in the video below.
Usually this issue with the Roadster V3 throttle can be resolved by checking one or both of these connections for the display wire. We hope this has help to resolve this issue but if it did not feel free to reach out to our knowledgeable support team with photos and/or videos showing the steps you have already taken for further help.
